Before your first visit to our Medical Centre, please turn up 5-10 minutes early to complete your paperwork.

Please bring your identity document with you at all times. Some appointments such as: abdominal ultrasound require additional preparation.

How to prepare for an abdominal ultrasound examination?

Newborns and infants – it is optimal to perform the examination approximately 30-60 minutes after feeding the child with milk. The day before the examination and on the day of the examination, it is advisable to administer an intestinal gas-reducing preparation in drops containing simethicone in a dose adapted to the child’s weight (according to the manufacturer’s recommendations).

Children aged 2-6 years – it is advisable to withhold food at least 3 h before the test. It is advisable to avoid flatulent meals. The day before the examination and on the day of the examination, it is advisable to administer an intestinal gas-reducing preparation in drops or capsules containing simethicone in a dose adapted to the child’s weight (according to the manufacturer’s recommendations). Before the examination, the child can be given non-carbonated, unsweetened water to drink.

Children over 6 years of age – it is advisable to withhold food for at least 4-5 h before the examination.

Young adults and adolescents – abdominal ultrasound examination should be performed after a break of at least 8-12 hours from food intake. The day before the examination and on the day of the examination, it is advisable to administer an intestinal gas-reducing preparation in capsules containing simethicone in a dose adapted to your weight, at least 3 times a day (according to the manufacturer’s recommendations). Before the examination, you can drink non-carbonated, unsweetened water. Coffee, strong tea and smoking should be avoided on the day of the examination.

Pyloric assessment – abdominal ultrasound with pyloric assessment in inconclusive cases needs to be extended to include dynamic assessment during feeding. It is therefore recommended that parents of newborns and infants have the opportunity to give their child milk.
